Workspaces, roles, and invitations
How work is separated between workspaces, who can do what, and how to bring people in.
Everything in Testsnag belongs to a workspace: tests, suites, runs, files, blocks, scripts, variables, and integrations. You always have one of your own, and you can be a member of other people’s. The workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar moves between them, and nothing is shared across the boundary.
- 1Create another workspace, subject to your plan’s workspace limit.
- 2Your role in this workspace. Owner holds the plan and billing.
- 3Member count. Plan limits follow the owner, not whoever runs a test.
- 4Manage members and invitations, or switch to another workspace.
Inside a workspace
Opening a workspace gives you a tab bar rather than one long page, laid out the same way as a test’s settings: General for the name and details, Members for who is in it and what role they hold, Invitations for anyone invited but not yet accepted, and Advanced for the destructive things such as leaving or deleting the workspace. Invitations and Advanced only appear when your role and situation allow them, so the tabs you see are the ones you can act on.
- 1General: rename the workspace and see who owns it.
- 2Members: who is in the workspace and the role each one holds.
- 3Invitations: people invited who have not accepted yet.
- 4The owner is named here. Plan limits follow this account.
When to use more than one
Separate workspaces suit genuinely separate concerns: two different products, an agency’s clients, or a strict split between staging and production. Do not reach for one just to group tests, since suites and naming do that better and keep everything visible in one place.
The three roles
- Owner: created the workspace. Holds the plan and billing, and is the only role that cannot be removed.
- Admin: can manage the workspace and its members alongside doing the everyday work.
- Member: can build, run, and edit tests, but not manage the workspace or its people.
Plan limits follow the workspace owner, not whoever presses Run. A member running a test consumes the owner’s monthly allowance, and the features available are the ones the owner’s plan unlocks.
Inviting people
Invite by email address from the workspace settings and choose the role at the same time. The invitation is reachable even for somebody who has not finished their own setup yet, so a new colleague can accept and get straight to work. Roles can be changed later, and removing somebody revokes access immediately while leaving everything they built in place.
