# Getting started checklist

The one-screen welcome, the checklist that follows you around, and how to hide it or bring it back.

New accounts start with one question rather than an empty dashboard: what do you want to test first? Answer it and you have a real test straight away. From there a short checklist in the sidebar walks you through building it, running it, and reading the report, while leaving every other page open to explore.

## The welcome

1. **Pick a test type**: Website, API, or SEO. Mobile app tests need an app build first, so they are created from the Tests page instead.
2. **Paste a URL**: The page, API base URL, or page to audit. Testsnag names the test after it, so your tests list reads usefully from the first row.
3. **Check the defaults**: Your workspace is pre-named after you, with a Rename link if you want something else. Failure emails are on by default. Both can be changed later.

> **Note:** Every answer changes real state: the workspace is renamed, the test is created, and the alert is switched on. Choose Skip for now if you would rather look around first.

## The checklist

The Get started card sits at the bottom of the sidebar on every page. It ticks off as the real thing happens, never on a button press: create a test, record a few steps or add a request, run it, read the report. SEO tests skip the building step because they need no steps.

Click the highlighted item to jump to the right page. Once there, a small hint points at the control to use next. Choose Got it to hide a hint you do not need.

## Finishing

When your first run finishes, the checklist offers the report. Opening it completes setup and suggests what to do next: put the test on a schedule, send alerts to the tools you already use, and invite your team. Pass or fail does not matter here; either result teaches you the report.

## Hiding it and bringing it back

Close the card with its X to hide it. Nothing is lost: open your profile menu and choose Getting started to bring it back, with your progress picked up from your real tests and runs.

> **Note:** If you were invited to somebody else’s workspace rather than signing up on your own, you do not see the checklist there. It only applies to the workspace you own.
